The origin of Ghost Club we can find it in the year 1955 at the University of Cambridge. Several fellow academics from Trinity College began to meet to discuss ghosts and other unexplained phenomena. In 1862 , some of the members of that primal group were in London and they decided to found the Ghost Club . Its purpose was to discover what was true and fraudulent behind them. Among the first components of the group we find figures like Charles Dickens or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle .
The so-called "paranormal" phenomena and the ghostly apparitions were fashionable in Victorian society so that the mediums who claimed to get in contact with deceased people proliferated. One of the first Ghost Club investigations it was about the Davenport Brothers , alleged spiritualists from the USA The Davenport were magicians who presented their illusions as authentic communication with the afterlife. They claimed to be able to contact ghostly spirits and among others they presented a trick in which they were tied inside a box with various musical instruments. The box was closed and although they apparently remained linked, the music sounded, according to them thanks to their spiritual powers.
On the death of Charles Dickens, in 1870, the Ghost Club disbanded . However, other people they retook it in 1882, although with the difference that if at first the intention of its members was to be critical and as rational as possible in their beliefs and research, the second batch of affiliates was of a very different mood, since in general it was defenders of spiritualism and convinced believers .
The Ghost Club investigated cases as well known as the Rectory Borley or the Glamis Castle in Scotland and exposed to public opinion many frauds related to alleged photographs of ghosts. Currently it is still working as a non-profit society that welcomes among its members all those people interested in paranormal phenomena.
